Banfield Offers Internship Program Designed for the General Practitioner

PORTLAND, Ore. ~ Banfield, The Pet Hospital®, the nation's largest and most progressive private veterinary practice, recently launched an internship program to help make the transition from school to professional practice successful and rewarding for new veterinary graduates. Unlike most veterinary internships, instead of offering training with a specialized focus, Banfield interns will gain valuable, well-rounded experience to become highly qualified, skilled Pet general practitioners.

Banfield is offering several internships at full-service hospitals in Calif., Texas, Ore. and Wash., beginning in June 2005. Participating hospitals have modern facilities that offer interns hands-on experience with in-house laboratories, high tech diagnostic, ultrasound equipment, and computerized medical records. Banfield interns will become proficient in practicing evidence-based veterinary medicine, and will build confidence and expertise in medical and surgical procedures, including elective surgeries and preventive care. They will learn how to employ diagnostic algorithms in daily case work-ups, become practiced in the art of communicating with clients, and learn to manage a productive small animal veterinary hospital successfully.

Students who will be licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the United states interested in increasing their proficiency in high quality general medicine for Pets may review information about Banfield's internship program in the Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program 2005-2006, at www.VIRMP.org, or contact Karen Faunt, DVM, ACVIM, at 1-800-838-6738, Ext. 5501.

Founded in Portland, Oregon in 1955, Banfield, The Pet Hospital is committed to giving Pets the same medical care people expect for themselves. With more than 400 locations in the U.S., two in the U.K. and one in Mexico, Banfield extends the lives of more than 2.5 million Pets each year.
